Cowparade ist das größte öffentliche Kunstevent weltweit. Bei der Cowparade geht es um stimulierende Kunst in einer dazu im Kontrast stehenden städtischen Umgebung, die für jeden frei zugänglich ist. Die erste Cowparade fand 1998 in Zürich statt. Seitdem haben mehr als 70 Städte auf allen Kontinenten mit mehr als über 6.000 Künstlern und 5.000 Kühen daran mitgewirkt. Nach jedem Event wird ein großer Teil der einzigartigen, lebensgroßen Kühe an die Organisation übergeben, damit die Kühe versteigert werden können. Die Mehrheit der Einnahmen wird zu Gunsten guter Zwecke gespendet. Bis heute konnten so viele unterschiedliche Projekte realisiert und dafür weltweit Millionen eingesetzt werden.

Diese Cowparade Kühe aus Polyresin und Keramik sind exakte Kopien der Modelle, die weltweit an der Cowparade teilgenommen haben. Jede Kuh der Cowparade hat ihre ganz eigene Geschichte und ist handbemalt. Daher sind die Kühe ein wunderbares Geschenk um anderen eine Freude zu bereiten, aber auch um sich selbst zu beschenken.

This grazing cow is adorned with profusion of spring flowers such as tulips, iris, dogwood, and of course azaleas. The tail and horns are graced with a touch of grapevine and smaller flowers. The hooves and legs are completed with rocks and flowering shrubs. The Texas blue sky background is enhanced with airy trees, clouds, and large azaleas. The forehead of the cow has a Texas shaped cloud with twining vines.The artist explains, “I love Texas history and we are so lucky to have a part of our history preserved so well in the grounds at Bayou Bend, former home of Houston philanthropist, Ima Hogg. Houston and azaleas are a great combination. I hope others will be reminded of the beauty of Houston in the spring when the azaleas are in bloom.”

This cow was sold in the live auction conducted by Sotheby’s on December 6, 2001 at the Wortham Center.
